We began with a critique and made more progress on our work. Throughout the day, each group (web, promotions, venue, project manager, and lead designer) met with Amy and Jenn to discuss ideas pertaining to our book & site as well as our exhibitions. Once those ideas started to come together, we met individually with Amy and Jenn to discuss our own progress and direction(s). After the meeting, we all felt comfortable with where our work was going (for the most part).

At the end of the day, we collectively talked about the book layout, so we could get some comps together for the next day. I don’t want to talk too much about the book yet- it’s a surprise! ;) Eventually, you will be able to purchase the book on our site: elevendozen.sweatspace.com/

And of course, SWEAT would not be possible without Amy Fidler and Jenn Stucker.

The second day of SWEAT began with critiques of our first 25 pieces. We created a clever hanging space in Jenn’s basement for physical work and projected digital work onto a white wall. We were all quite pleased with the body of work overall and were feeling inspired to create more. Everyone began developing a direction (or two) to work with the rest of the day.

During our work time some of the guys (Nick, Kevin, and Tyler) decided to get tattoos of their hammers! They look great! The day wrapped up quickly, and everyone went home. 15 more for tomorrow!

We have come together for one week (starting today) under the leadership of Amy Fidler and Jenn Stucker, who are both design professors at BGSU. This summer is the 4th year SWEAT has taken place.

SWEAT day 1 was nothing short of exciting. We convened at Jenn’s house and learned that we would be participating in the 100 Hammers project. Our prompt is this: “What is the graphic expression of 100 hammers?”. We are each (9 students + Amy & Jenn) responsible for creating 25 “expressions” a day this week, until Friday, when we will finalize our designs. 100 creations each. So far, we have had 2D and 3D expressions/creations, but there are talks of a video/audio expression!

Today, after we learned about what we were doing, we did a few collaborative pieces then took a trip down to Jeffery’s Antique Mall for some inspiration. :) The rest of the day was spent working on our 25 pieces. Tomorrow morning, we will critique our work then make more! :)
